My Costco in northern Japan yesterday: regular gasoline: 145 JPY (0.8137 EUR) / litre. Diesel: 135 (0.7575).
Non-costco regular gasoline has gone as high as 169 JPY (~ 0.95 EUR) recently.
I’m pretty sure the government has price caps and subsidizes things. Out here in the deep countryside, there’s no practical choice aside from driving.
Park those piece of shit F350s you only get groceries with boys. Rolling coal is off the table.
This is funny because Scrump and his little Scrumplings are in Ireland this week. Having left the mighty USofA on Friday, the anniversary of the supposedly most horrific day in modern American history… Anyway…
His biggest little scrumpling Eric was on the radio talking about how much gas and oil the US produces and how well off ye all are there…Better than any other time in history.
He was really convincing (if you have no brain) and so proud of what his family have achieved- also pointedly NOT ruling out himself running for president in the future. Then they all went to play golf and Irish people were arrested for protesting it. I hate them. DTA
Took this today in Washington state. Not out of diesel yet, but it’ll cost ya

Alright, brace yourselves everyone. This is going to be like that time that I chose the first rollercoaster to ever ride was the one that drops you.
Fuckin Biden again lmao
What did Biden mean by this?
Texas is running out of diesel? That Texas?
Yikes.
Yea you know, the one with the oil and the refineries. That texas.
Between this and the blackouts, I’m beginning to suspect that Texas’ energy policy might not be geared toward the best interests of its residents. Concerning if true.
Who knew had “Gas Shortage” on their “October Surprise” bingo card? We’re gonna party like it’s 1979!
Diesel shortage not gas shortage.
I’m no expert on the oil industry, but something about how american refineries handle domestic crude results in them producing far less diesel than normal. Diesel is being hit hardest by these price increases.
This is excellent. I’m hoping most of the magats rip themselves apart trying to high beam balance their life choices with the reality of the consequences.
Why would Biden do this to us?? /s
Yep, the pain will never force them to look in the mirror. Or if they do, it’ll be a magic mirror that shows them Biden, or Obama, or Clinton, or Carter, or DEI, or Transpeople, or Immigrants, and so it goes.
Their phantasm that they look at reality through lets them ignore it. Market freefall or gas droughts can be the fault of Hunter Biden or something, hence becoming Maga isn’t a thing somebody who can reflect on consequences does. (Don’t believe people like MGT or Milo Yeonopowatever. Their victim act is part of an exit strategy you will see a lot more republicans using as time goes on)
That’s because TEXAS is SOCIALIST! ONLY Socialists run Out Of Gas!
-Republicans but LITERALLY!
I saw one today where there was no price at all for diesel. Figured it was just a sign glitch or something, as other places have some, but maybe not if their supplier is low.
A few scattered places in California have diesel prices that are higher than $10/gal, so the sign cant show the price correctly
i remember when gas stations had to fabricate a “1” to put in front when prices first went over $1 per gallon because their price signs didn’t have a ‘dollars’ digit.
Normal European prices 🚀
It really does infuriate me seeing them bitch about incredibly low fuel costs.
If it makes you feel any better, it’s not like poor Americans are doing much better because of the lower sticker price. Federal minimum wage is (still…) $7.25/hr, less for some tipped jobs, and a lot of people with those jobs have a significant commute. It’s the same system where the working class is squeezed to the breaking point in the service of shareholder value, just with slightly different minimums for different things.
Seen that too. Inconceivable!
Also apparently bunker oil for shipping is now in short supply. Due to it being less profitable. So that going to hit all kinds of international trade pretty hard. It’s a bit of a slow motion crash.
To everyone using superior measurments: thats 0.856 dollhairs/liter. Here diesel was 2.40€/liter yesterday.
Edit i am really bad at math when high, i might be off here
To be clear, the price of diesel on the sign is “out.” Which I guess could be considered ∞ per gallon. Or per liter. Whether talking euros or dollars.
The US national average for diesel just hit $6/gallon (€1.40/liter).
1.026 USD/liter, not .856.
.884 EUR/liter
Still a huge difference of course, but trying to keep things accurate
litre*
Mah bad
The fucking cheek of americans to bitch about fuel prices
If it was the 70 something cents a liter they were bitching about here, we’d be filling every last container with it.
Well if you had to drive 30 minutes to everywhere you’d be pissed too. Not like we can get froggy and decide to take the train instead of walking today.
If fuel was that cheap I’d be driving everywhere too.
Why is every European on Lemmy this slow on the uptake
Because you’re completely unaware of irony when used in writing.
It must be frustrating.
I don’t think you understand what irony is. You’re not beating the allegations lol
Woosh.
“So whatever outrageous price they were charging wasn’t high enough to truly reflect market conditions,” a free market stan might say. Might even have a point.
Or one might say “the catastrophic war in the middle east, the one waged specifically to drive down global supply to make the pillaging of Venezuela even more profitable, shows no sign of stopping any time soon so if oil companies hold on to their current inventory they might be able to profit from it even more in a few weeks / months as the crisis deepens”.
