      That’s an insane design choice.

      There’s a fan here that has a bright blue LED capable of lighting a whole room. That LED shines when the silent mode for the night is activated 🙄

            Light a candle (before is better than after, I’ve tested this extensively. I should probably submit my documentation somewhere and at least go for an associates in farts or candles, idk) and if that’s not enough, they make this deodorant you can eat if you have weapon grade farts

          I miss the days when phones were getting smaller and smaller. Subtlety was still valued during that time and phone makers knew that while people did want a phone, they wanted it to be as out of their way as possible.

          Then smart phones got powerful enough to drive large screens and things started getting louder with their presence, everything wanting a share of your attention. Smart appliances ironically are smart to get more attention (when I’d figure the main point of making things smart is to allow automation to reduce the amount of attention they need, not try to get you to interact with them via an app when you aren’t physically present).

          It just seems like at some point project design was taken over by fucking marketers and we need to tell them to shut the fuck up already.

        At first I loved the blue LEDs when they showed up in the early 2000 but I’ve grown to hate them. Why can’t a soft green or red be used.

        I use a black permanent marker on all blindingly bright LEDs. Most of mine were actually sticking out so was able to paint over them without messing up the rest of the device. Tones them down nicely, but you can still see if it’s on.

        When super bright LEDs became a thing they felt they needed to put them in everything. “It is new!” I went into my home office to get something and didn’t turn the light on and wondered what the blue glow in it was. It was an LED in a monitor telling me it was plugged in. My wife has me put black tape over leds on things like usb hubs because they are blindingly bright.

        Don’t get me started on leds flashlights that all have multimode including rapid flashing so when the battery connection is poor, like when the flashlight gets old, if there is a split second break in power it switches to rapid flashing. Just what I need when trying to get around in the dark.

        Gaffer tape. Gaffer tape everywhere. And for those LEDs that you actually want to see, but not light up the whole room, two pieces of gaffer tape with a hair’s breadth between them. Makes for an indicator light that can only really be seen when your looking straight at it.

            i’d love to hear your complaints. mostly so if i’ve got something wonky with my bike i can fix it. i’m not trying to blind anyone with that damn thing, just make sure both i can see and be seen. mine’s got less than half the luminosity of a car headlight, so we might be talking about different types of headlamps tho. some people get nuts with their headlamps.

              I used a flashlight mount on the handlebar, and pointed it at the ground in front of me instead of forward into space. Worked very well and didn’t shine into people’s eyes. I also didn’t use the blinkenlights mode on the rear light despite it being the popular option around here — it’s just annoying.

              I’ve had a run-in with blinding lights when I was in a group of people cycling at night, and on a path through an unlit park we encountered a group riding the opposite way. Couldn’t see shit except their lights.
