I think we are all aware that it’s the taboo surrounding something that makes it enticing or appealing.

An example I always fall back onto is nudity in general. Most people view nudity as being erotic but talk with a nudist or naturist and nudity loses it’s entire taboo background and becomes just a natural state.

But nudity is low hanging fruit, in my opinion.

I could dispense with marital jealousy. Not fidelity, jealousy. Two people can be together, love each other, but they are not dead. They can still see people around them and notice if someone is attractive or not. It’s not necessary to act on it but it is completely unjustified to hold someone on a bad account just because they have eyes.

I laugh when my partner shows me a meme where a perfect male model is pictured. I’m completely unremarkable by contrast but she’s with me. That’s my win.

The entire American attitude surrounding sexuality like it’s something to be embarrassed or afraid of

You’ve hit the nail on the head. While I understand where the prevailing sentiment comes from, I’ve never understood the logic behind it. Like any other function of our bodies that is intrinsically part of our make-up, the idea of that this should be something to be embarrassed or closed off about seems ludicrous. I also tend to think that the very act of closing off that subject is what leads to many of the atrocities and health issues that happen surrounding sex. It’s an infantile, control ridden approach at best.

I also agree with OP about marital jealousy. Finding what intrigues my partner is enjoyable to me. Her desires are a feature, not a bug, and shouldn’t be viewed as aberrant.

Nothing is emblematic of this more than the fact that they want to lock down large parts of the internet behind age verification (read: personal identification) to “protect children” from pictures of dicks, tits and ass… while at the same time they’ll pump little Johnny full of meds and buy him a glock and an AR-15 for his fucking bar mitzvah.

In America, people are taught to view sex as worse than violence.

Well that one is honestly just an excuse, not an actual belief about sex. “Protecting” kids is framing the argument, not a real reason.

I’d say the bans on sex toys, anal, etc that exist in some states is a better example.

I would like to dispose of the idea that kinky people are freaks, abominations or a danger to society.

Society is way too quick to cast judgement on people whose sexual expression is atypical or different from the vanilla norm. To make matters worse, people seem happy to intentionally conflate consensual adult kinkiness with serious social problems (ie: suggesting people who do BDSM are violent, furries are into beastiality, ABDLs are pedophiles, etc.) because it allows them to justify their desire to hate and shame people who like something different.

And even though we’re talking about sex and not identity, I’d argue this is all part of the same logical continuum that has been, and is still being used, to justify fear and hate against LGBTQ+ people.

Every community is going to have a few bad apples, obviously. But outside of minor scene drama most of the people I’ve met in the kink space have been extremely nice, safe to be around, and much more consent-oriented than the average person.

I agree with you on all counts. The thought of living in a nudist environment kind of terrifies me for that reason. I really enjoy sexually fetishizing nudity, and I think I would miss doing so if it was normalized and I no longer could. 😅

Nudists still get turned on by naked people, just not gratuitly. If a person is simply naked, it’s just natural. If the person is naked and feeling in the mood, that’s sexy.
