AirBnB became too many people’s “passive income”.

They don’t want to take care of the property or have too many to take care of, so they treat customers like house sitters for the luxury of renting the property as well as building equity off them.

Pretty messed up. In the early days Airbnb was ok, we used it a couple times, but I don’t think I’d want to mess with it today.

You can do that and decide if you want to buy the physical copy.

Not helicopter parents. They are part of the problem, but that’s not it. I have kids, and the reason they’re not outside is that most everything can be done inside now to meet with friends. Video calls, gaming with Discord, etc. They regularly just phone up and hang out. For us “old people” we had a household landline, that’s it, and meeting up with bicycles or stickball in the street or whatever was the only way we could hang out.

That’s why. Times change.

The anti-property tax propaganda is from the real estate hoarding corporate owners. As usual, these anti-tax wingnuts latch on to “why should I pay property tax (insert selfish reason here)” when the real reason is the real estate hoarding companies don’t want to pay property taxes on all the properties they’ve hoarded and are likely sitting empty. The same properties they used to price people out of homebuying, the same ones they used to increase rent super high because you can’t afford a home and will own nothing.

And of course anti-tax wingnuts don’t care that property taxes pay for schools, police, fire services,etc. (ain’t got no kids so why should I pay for school? My house has never burned down. Who needs cops when I got a Smith and Wesson?) and those things will still have to be paid for via some kind of tax, so in the end they still pay but the absentee owners get a huge tax break.

A lot of our critical infrastructure is connected. From power generation to water to sewer. All have been subject to hacking attempts, some successful.

I have also been saying for quite a long time that these things should not be connected in a way that they can be damaged or disabled by internet.

But y’know, put it all on the web and write controller software for centralized remote operation and monitoring so you can fire people and run the system with less people for more profit.

What an awful “premium” brand. They’re the same ones trying for subscription access to heated seats, remote start, or driver assistance features among others.

I’m sorry you took it as personal, but you seem to be making this whole event surround your hypothetical ineptitude and personal inconvenience. Plan to eat. If you can’t, don’t expect sympathy. Christ, it’s like you expect to be catered to and spoon fed as a tourist. I’ve spent many a tourist evening having food like bread and cheese from the grocery store or convenience shop because there were no restaurant seats to be had. Grow up. That’s life.

The alternative isn’t hyperbolic starvation, it’s to go to a different restaurant, or even one of their famous 7-Eleven shops. Barring a medical condition there’s nothing but some minor discomfort for the vast majority of us if you miss a meal. Obviously your poor planning for mealtimes isn’t an emergency on their part, but you’re welcome to try the restaurant in this situation. They may serve you and they may treat you coldly or offer the least service, or, they may not serve you, or even ask you to leave. But the sign is there for a reason.
