signatures/stamps/whatever really only ever made sense as a strict verification of identity back when it was actually really difficult to copy a fancy sigil, and even then it was a thing for rich people and by far the best use-case for it was sealing letters so you know that yes this letter was sent by the count of Mingestonshire and hasn’t been tampered with.
