Too bad he didn’t cause any meaningful change to the DNC and immediately dissappeared after his term letting the party flounder without a real direction. We’re still feeling the effects of his lack of leadership. He was the disruption candidate that forgot to disrupt.

He’s also been happy to help rehabilitate bush and is now being pro republicans staying around as a party.

Hell in office he was more than happy to continue bushs programs and agendas

He probably disappeared because the DNC was still propping up Hillary Clinton and she was running the show. Remember 2008 was supposed to be Hillary’s year, Obama came out of nowhere during the primaries, he was just a one term senator. So the DNC and Hillary probably felt that Obama swiped the presidential seat from under their nose. Obama gave Hillary Secretary of State as a peace offering, but probably wasn’t enough for the DNC and Hillary. I doubt he could have pushed through any meaningfully change when the DNC was adamant on getting Hillary in office.

He had 8 years to do something about it. He used them to help prop her up. Remember he made her Secretary of State. That’s when we got to see what a true war hawk she is.

What was he supposed to do? He gave us 8 years of competent leadership. One deserves retirement.

I was in the Finance Industry during the 2008 Crash and its aftermath.

The way Obama unconditionally saved the Asset Owners, refused to fully restore the Regulation of the Industry that had stopped crashes like that from happenning (until none other than Clinton repealed it) and made mainly workers pay for it all (which is why inequality has exploded since), was not “competent leadership”.

Unless you think that when a leader of a nation sacrifices the many to save the few from their own massive fuck-up that’s “competency”.

And don’t get me started on his droning campaign were so many civilians were killed that Obama changed the definition of Enemy Combatant to be all men ages 16 to 60, so that they didn’t count as collateral casualties.

Obama was a veritable political songbird, his song beautiful and inspiring - great communicator, impeccable image management. What he was not was compentent, at least not at representing the interests of all, or even just most, of the citizens of the country he was president of.

(I suppose you could say that he was competent at some things, though not at being a President).

Supposedly, and I’m not making any claim on the veracity of this, there was a decision on whether to prioritize healthcare or accountability for the financial industry, and they went with the former. That’s their story anyway

It would’ve been a more believable claim if the outcome was Universal Healthcare rather than some small tweaks on the existing system that did not in any way, form or shape solve the probem.

The healthcare plan they prioritized was developed by the Heritage Foundation, on behalf of insurance providers. Mitt Romney actually ran on implementing basically the exact same bill.

Make meaningful change in the DNC. You know, like my comment said. Look what Trump did to the RNC. He completely reshaped that party. Obama left it floundering so he can make money giving speeches.

I feel like you’re giving WAY too much credit to Trump. Did Trump change the RNC? Or was he just the catalyst that allowed the RNC to become what they always wanted to become? All he did was rally the base like no other politician on either side really has. The RNC just saw that as an opportunity.

Yes, he did that much to change the RNC. He put his daughter in law as the head of the RNC so he could threaten to primary people that didn’t do what he wants. He did that during the time he wasn’t president…

I guess I just disagree. IMO, that’s not his responsibility.

That’s fair, but what is the point of hiring a leader of a party if they’re not going to lead that party? The democrats have had that problem since I’ve been alive. They seem to always just hope some charismatic person arises instead having a true direction. It’s an inherent problem with being a “big tent” party. Trying to please everyone you end up pleasing no one.

No, that is his only responsibility. He was a servant of the people, not the other fucking way around.
