I only know about OGLAF. I don’t know why this genre is not popular as much as it should be.
Oglaf is noteworthy because it created its own genre. I don’t always find it funny, but the focus is always on the joke rather than the sex. To create something like this and avoid the financial temptation to dip into sex work is really incredible. Go become the genre’s second success.
Yoooo!
Oh man, it’s hard to pull off what oglaf does and actually be funny. I don’t know if you’ve seen r/comics in recent years but it’s basically all sexual comics now with porn hustles on the side and it is the dullest shit you will ever read.
A lot of anime can toe this line, this issue with anime is that a fair amount if the well written anime feature fanservice with visually underage characters. Even the original dragon ball had nudity. Its largely a western issue, maybe specifically the US but im not sure. For some reason in the US the human body is seen as inherently sexual and its super gross to me. I always try to upvote womens liberation stuff because my biggest issue is the hypocracy surrounding breasts. Seperately I support naturism, but I recognise that convincing the US that nudity isnt something to be scared of isnt super realistic.
I mean both can be true at the same time. The USA are definitely weird with their prudity but that doesn’t make the lolicon stuff in Japan better.
Spitting straight up facts. America got really wierd about bodies and sex and I may or may not be wearing a tinfoil hat about it. Also, I LOVE some degeneracy but it has to come from someone who’s consensually touched a woman before.
So, send me anime recommendations that don’t make you want to claw your eyes out.
It makes sense. Oglaf’s secret is that it’s legitimately clever. Most writers/artists would want to leverage that by getting a broad audience, which means no dicks and stuff.
Then again things like Game of Thrones shows that something can have sex but still be considered mainstream.
That’s exactly it. Oglaf is crazy smart under all the irreverence and sleeze.
He can even write his name in the air with cum 👈😎👈
The audience is just very narrow, you lose the people who don’t want to see nsfw imagery and the people who are just looking for porn. It is an underexplored area in media in general (with the exception of fine art).
the hell do you mean “not erotic”
the latest strip literally has a detailed drawing of a guy shoving a magic lamp up his ass
Nudity isn’t inherently erotic. Nor is a guy shoving a lamp up his ass.
You can even have outright sex, and it isn’t inherently erotic, just tends to be viewed that way because most people do connect the two.
Oglaf is a great example because it uses sexual imagery as a tool for humor, rather than to stir arousal. Yeah, there’s tits and dicks, but you’ll find the same in a decent sauna where it also isn’t sexual unless you make it that way.
The particular strip you’re talking about isn’t made to turn people on, it’s you get laughs. If people DO get turned on by a cartoon ass get to rammed by an object, that’s okay, but it doesn’t make the strip itself erotic.
that’s fair. some of them are made to be erotic, but not the one i described. it’s just goofy.
…does that make you horny?😂
not really, i was more weirded out. but the intention was pretty clear.
If by “pretty clear” you’re saying his intent was to arouse people by showing the lamp up the guy’s butt, I disagree.
Good save bro, nobody suspects a thing
🤫
- If you mean webcomix, then Sexy Losers relaunched not too long ago.
- PRIMS from France is pretty savage, for one.
- The British Deathbulge is pretty wacky, and sometimes quite NSFW.
- Ink Dolls for very light, fun sexuality, so I guess that breaks your rule.
- Twisted Speedo is sometimes quite NSFW.
Those are just some of my favorites, but there are certainly more.
I mean, yes, but is this particularly unpopular? I get the sense that there are plenty, but if they aren’t erotic they don’t tend to focus on the NSFW aspect. It then depends on the artist, you just have to look.
In another life I really loved “The Maxx” - they even made a few episodes of a tv pilot out of it.
black and white comics of the 90s. stuff like Scud the Disposable Assassin, La Cosa Nostroid, Stray Bullets, Love and Rockets, Why I hate Saturn, Torso, From Hell, Black Hole, GEARS, Maus. Some of these would be considered NSFW. most not because of the gore/violence but subject matter and mature stories.
Indie comics of the 90s was pretty much the peak of this stuff. OR for something more familiar the original run of TMNT comics from the 80s.
Sandman has a fair amount of nudity as well.
Agreed! That was one of the things I loved about The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Before Eastman and Laird started making heaps of money off toy sales the title was an adult comic book. As they were quickly selling about 1 billion dollars in towy it became tweener Kowabunga bullshit. Same with Elfquest, though that title never went full on adolescent.
Back in the day I used to read a rag called Cerebus The Aardvark, Go check it out. At one point it was the longest running comic that had a single continuous story.
It started as a parody of Conan and pretty quickly evolved into its own thing. You will either love it or not.
I’m so sad they quit the original vision. I’m of the age that I have nostalgia about the cartoons, but the comic was so good.
Not the most obscure one, but try The Boys. Comic is WAAAAY better than the show. Also extremely disturbing at times. Best comic I have ever read.
Edit: I forgot halfway through I replied, recommendation was for OP mainly.
Also Hellboy, Kill Six Billion Demons (https://killsixbilliondemons.com/), John Constantine, Hellblazer, Sandman, V for Vendetta, Preacher. I’ll try to add more if I think any.
Stand still stay silent held me for a time. It ran for a few years. Not sexual, but definitely gory.
NSFW but not erotic? So … gore?
Nope. Another example I did not mention is the other end. He used to do some NSFW comics, but he stopped doing that after he became famous on social media.
