Israel interfering in an European election and indirectly supporting Putin. Wow, that is new… Why?

Cui bono? Netanyahu should be more worried about the support of the EU than about anti European Orban. And Orban is pro Russia, an ally of Iran. Just that Netanyahu and Orban are autocrats is not a good reason for supporting Orban…

The EU is not even close to as strongly pro Israel as the US. Especially Spain and Ireland openly call what is happening in Gaza a genocide and a France and some other countries just recognized Palestine. A huge reason for support of Israel, is probably also the US. It was very interesting to see Germany being very clear that it did not want to support opening the Strait of Homruz closed due to the Israeli and US attack against Iran recently.

Orban has been the most radical somewhat powerful supporter of Israel in the EU. The EU has for example passed sanctions against Israeli settlers. Those could in theory be blocked by Orban. Also he withdrew Hungary from the Ineternational Criminal Court, so Netanyahu could visit him in the future.

Orban is against the recognition of Palestine even though Hungary technically officially recognises it and hasn’t withdrawn that recognition, and he’s also one of the loudest voices amongst Islamophobic and right-wing EU political leaders. Presumably Netanyahu figures that an ally like that within a bloc as big as the EU, which also has some more pro-Palestine voices who could potentially sway others, is worth the cost of Russia being in a better position. After all, while it is an ally of Iran, Russia’s attention is largely being kept elsewhere for now
