  • That is why you see the EU moving steadily away from the US. For example heating. The EU just singed trade deals with Australia and Canada, who are the 5th and 6th largest fossil gas exporters. They also like Mercosur have a lot of other natural resources, which the EU needs.

For trade the EU has the Euro, which is already the second biggest currency in the world making up about half of EU trade. It also seems to gain strength. There is SEPA and the digital Euro, which will help a lot. Honestly the EU is in a better position in this then most.

There are a lot of other examples like this, where the EU is moving away from the US. Usually quietly as to not piss of Trump, but actually relatively quickly. Probably the next big one will be to keep the Green Deal to reduce fossil fuel consumption.

  • That was a campaign against George Soros. He is a Hungarian born Jewish American investor. He has been funding a lot of liberal eastern European organizations especially so in Hungary. They all obviously do not like Orban terribly much, as a dictatorship is obviously not liberal. Soros also financed campaigns and organizations, which speak out against Israeli anti democracy and human rights actions like Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions.

  • The EU is not even close to as strongly pro Israel as the US. Especially Spain and Ireland openly call what is happening in Gaza a genocide and a France and some other countries just recognized Palestine. A huge reason for support of Israel, is probably also the US. It was very interesting to see Germany being very clear that it did not want to support opening the Strait of Homruz closed due to the Israeli and US attack against Iran recently.

Orban has been the most radical somewhat powerful supporter of Israel in the EU. The EU has for example passed sanctions against Israeli settlers. Those could in theory be blocked by Orban. Also he withdrew Hungary from the Ineternational Criminal Court, so Netanyahu could visit him in the future.

  • Boris Johnson introduced a points based immigration system and a lot of Indians, Pakistanis and Nigerians used that to go to the UK. At the same time most EU migrants were from the poorer eastern members and they have caught up a lot. Places like north England are not that much richer then Poland for example.
