I used to have plenty of recipes in which all I had to do was lightly fry chopped onion in the pot, then throw everything else in on a certain setting for 45 min. Prep and clean up takes time still, but once the instant pot was cooking, I could even leave it unattended and got to the gym and have good ready on return.

In case you’re a masochist like me and want a lot more work on your hands, then you could remove the whole laptop mobo and make its own case and make it more compact in the process.

I’ve done this recently to make a standalone machine out of a busted laptop. This can give you a single, more compact unit with all the parts inside. You can improve the cooling and noise too (by using desktop fans). You’ll maintain your laptop resale value too by not destroying the case and being able to put the mobo back in place in the future. Infact, with today’s ram prices, the reason I went down this route is because you can get broken laptops with soldered in DDR5 ram.

Paint.net is awesome and one of the reasons I used to keep Windows installed for dual boot. Then I found a Linux clone and I’ve been using that (Pinta).

Some family members warned me not to buy a house with a shared private driveway, but now we can close this off whenever we feel like and the neighbour’s kids and mine absolutely love playing out front.

I wouldn’t put Metroidvanias (with large maps, back tracking, ability gating and flexibility in which area to go to next) alongside other open world adventure games (like GTA, Witcher, Breath of the Wild, etc). I love Metroidvanias and linear games, but I wouldn’t touch open world adventure RPGs with a 10 foot pole.

They’re surprisingly expensive for what they are. I’ve been shopping for broken laptops like that for ages to use as an emulation console for my kids. Ended up going with a NUC/mini PC and that’s got a smaller footprint, better cooling, better IO and tends to be quieter.
