  • You’re not forced to become a doctor. But if you do, and you do so not in isolation but with the resources provided for the state, resources that include efforts and labour by the proletariat of the state, then you’re expected to give back to those that will come after.

I truly don’t understand how that concept is so difficult to understand.

Debt to society is a figure of speech, not a material debt. It’s about participating in society that enables your life. If you don’t want to, you can always move to the woods and live in a cabin away from civilization and do everything yourself. But if you want the benefits of society and civilization, then you have to realize that you need to give back as well. It’s literally not that difficult a concept to understand, I’m not sure what’s confusing you

  • I’m curious to see how they respond. Because I’m thinking the answer to these questions is basically “I’m an ultra/anarchist who hasn’t thought this out at all and I’m being contrarian with no substance so I can feel like I’m contributing without doing anything”

  • I’m genuinely starting to think the person you’re replying to hasn’t done any reading and is only getting answers from ChatGPT or something as they go. Even before I started reading theory, some of these things were basic common sense understandable to anyone that can put 2 and 2 together.

  • Then you’re deeply unserious and fundamentally misunderstand how human social cohesion works. Your analysis will always be incomplete and lead to incorrect results if you don’t take into consideration the history of a people to understand why and how certain practices emerged in society.

Frankly, I’m surprised to see someone blatantly ignore something so fundamental to societal development. In fact, I’m almost curious as to what even the analysis is worth if it’s studied in isolation with 0 context. Even very rudimentary fiction takes this into account tbh.

Not to sound rude but are you sure you’re not a troll?

  • I can’t imagine why you oppose that. In fact, I think it should be mandatory in all countries. If your education is paid for by the state of the proletariat, then you HAVE to pay back to society.

I think this might be one of those individualistic vs collectivist moral thing.

In my country, if the state pays for your education, then you’re mandated to do service for a few years to the underprivileged sections of society. Because it was THEIR money that paid for your education. I would never vote for anyone trying to change this.

All of us owe a debt to society because our lives are made possible by it. All of us owe something to our fellow humans.

  • Think of it this way

Everything in you’re seeing in Gaza today is what was done to North Korea once. Arguably to an even larger extent.

A society that has been subject to that level of violence and inhumanity can’t be expected to be exactly like colonial countries in Europe in terms of its social norms, without even considering cultural differences.

Despite all of that, North Korea has not just managed to survive, it’s maintained HDI that surpasses nearly every other under developed country. Remember that it is one of the most, if not the most diplomatically isolated and sanctioned country in the world.

Do you think a state run by tyrants and capitalism enabled fasicsts would do that?
