In this day in age is it still hard for a person to "come out the closest" ? Or do we need the boomer generation to go away until it is so acceptable it becomes laughable for both parties?

Fair enough. But what makes you believe our generation will fair better in 50 years, when we are “veterans” in important positions? When that time comes, our current values and beliefs will be outdated as well. And upcoming generations will say the same about us. We can blame boomers, but in the end the future is our responsibility, and we have yet to prove we can achieve more.
