    shower thought: even if we “solved” the AI alignment problem, we’d still have a potential 51% attack if someone at a megacorp robot factory decided for suicide by robot and issued a software update to that end

      I think they would actually have to train a robot physically to do that. A few lines of code won’t work.

        Robots cannot be trained just with visual information to move like humans. Learning to move like a human just from camera information is like trying to learn to become a master ballet dancer just from watching a movie. Our sense of touch and body is essential to our abilities, and unlike text and images, these exist not in a form accessible to computers.

        The other thing is humanoid robots are promoted as being safe to work with or near humans. This is misinformation. They are so heavy and have so much energy that any loss of control or software glitch can kill a human. It’s like letting a maniac swinging a sledgehammer coming close to you.
