This is Sony, folks. Once they get in a mood to hang onto something needlessly, they do it.
The last Betamax cassette was manufactured in 2016.
Guess I’ll have to limit myself to the 10,000 other games to play on PC, then.
Also, it’s not like most or all of these exclusives won’t eventually be in emulation territory.
PS4 is 13 years old and a tiny fraction of its games are considered “playable” in emulators so far.
Each generation has been exponentially more challenging to emulate than the previous, so don’t hold your breath for reliable PS5 emulation.

Not really. PS4 is easier to emulate than PS3, if you are on x86 PC hardware. The development just didn’t have as much time as PS3 yet, but its not exponentially more challenging than PS3. PS5 is basically a PC, so emulating games wouldn’t be THAT hard. Like with PS4, they don’t need to emulate everything of the CPU (if you are playing on PC).
You’re totally right, it’s just x86 so it’ll be easy. That’s why 13 years later they made so much progress on PS4 emulation.
/s
Your assumption is that they developed the PS4 emulator 13 straight hardcore. There are systems that are harder to emulate, just because it is more demanding and much more complex like PS3. It needed loots of time and efforts to be on this level of RPCS3 emulating PS3. On the other hand, the developers of shadPS4 made progress very quick once they started fully developing the project. And you don’t even have to have a huge PC, because lots of the x86 instructions can be reused on your PC without emulating the whole thing. That’s what it means its the same architecture, it requires less resources to run than emulating it in full.
Before getting sarcastic, you should inform yourself about topics you are arguing.

You seem to be suggesting that the release date of a single emulator is the starting point? We’re not supposed to count the prior years? No one tried before that? There’s no prior art that people can build on?
Lots of projects started and were abandoned. A brief search and I can find at least 2 public projects started over 5 years ago, and many more abandoned efforts.
Those emulators work differently (shadPS4 doesn’t emulate the entire CPU) and they were nowwhere near in a usable state. shadPS4 didn’t took the work of these prior emulators, its done from scratch. At this point, you just put random arguments without proof. This is not a situation like Switch emulators where they just take prior work and keep working on it. shadPS4 was not 13 years in development. 2 years ago at launch it didn’t even launch a game. They made fast progress in short amount of time. And because the hardware is not emulated fully, you can run it in a relatively “weak” hardware given what its emulated.
Your previous argument that each generation is exponential harder to emulate is nonsense. That’s my point. Some hardware and generations are much harder than their successors, relatively speaking. PS5 emulation is not that far off from PS4, as the hardware is extremely similar (just stronger, like newer PC is stronger). Compared to previous generation of PS3 which was massively different.
Really? I’ve observed it being less challenging. People have more experience, the talent pool is larger, the tools are better, and the hardware is closer to PC hardware to begin with.
Also PS4 is x86, not some weird proprietary BS like PS3 was, and look how far that’s come!
Sony seems to be completely out of touch with the reality. During the time when the console prices have skyrocketed to the point it’s no longer an option for entire segment of the population, they decide that it’s right time to go back to console exclusive games? It also baffles me that there are fully grown men that are actually celebrating the return of console exclusives. What a bizarre tribalism at work here. I think I’m just going to slowly work through my back catalog until some semblance of sanity returns.
Haha yeah wow all fucking, what, like one of them a year? I’m sure I’ll miss them.
Was he worried the brand had too much good will? Because it didn’t but its sure to be worse now.
That’s like 1 video game a year
That you need dedicated otherwise useless hardware to play yes
Hey now, it’s perfectly capable of running the same games released on every other platform, for the low hardware price of… six hundred dollars?! Fuck off!
Its not it can’t and my computer is better
That was short lived
They saw how much money they could make being just another multiplatform publisher, and it scared the shit out of them.
The console war is over.
But this is a retraction of that. Like some last ditch effort to make PlayStation viable as a console. Console makers will eventually have to accept that it will move from purposed to general devices no matter what they do.
They saw this as nothing more than a tease for PC gamers, in the hopes that the taste they’ve gotten will result in those PC gamers buying a console in order to play the sequels.
Consoles in modern times are such adumb idea
As a PlayStation user, I think this is crap. I hate how I can’t play PC games and they never plan to come out for PlayStation… so this is equally crappy for PC users.
Except that every one of these games will eventually be emulated on PC.
Haha, that’s probably true!
This is super fucking dumb. Fire that man.
He is serving his function. Sony is gripping their platform with both hands, after nearly letting it slip away. The future presented by Helldivers 2 and various Spider-Mans is one where Sony’s a relatively large publisher for several important studios. The future where they deny reality and cosplay the 90s console war for another decade is one where they are the biggest fish in a small pond, and that makes more money, somehow.
I’m unclear how that will play out if Microsoft simply declines to release another Xbox.
We’ll see. None of these games ever had day 1 releases on PC. The next mainline God of War and Horizon games aren’t even announced, so things may change by then.
I don’t get it. If they want to increase PlayStation Plus subscriptions, they should limit the multiplayer games they port to PC. The last time I bought a console for a single player game was Final Fantasy 7 back in 1997.
Well aside, it’s surprising nothing on PS2 tempted you. Several tentpole titles did famously get PC ports, but if you’re more about Kingdom Hearts than GTA, that machine was like $150 by 2004.
Huh. Guess I won’t be getting any of Sony’s games then. I have no interest in a console.

Playstation releases games on PC, gamers say “PS5 doesn’t have any exclusives” and whine about it incessantly for 5 years. Playstation responds by saying “ok we will do some exclusives” and now gamers are whining about that. There’s just no winning.
it’s almost like it’s different people saying different things.
Nah, the internet is a monolith. When the hive mind agrees with me then the topic is just common sense and when we disagree I’m surrounded by sheep.
I’m mostly complaining about the morons whining about exclusives, tbf
I think the complaint has more been that the PS5 is lacking for games, period. I just looked it up, there have been 36 SIE games published on the PS5 thus far in what’s been roughly 5.5 years. It took SIE less than half that time to get to the same number published on the PS4.
I never understood consumers begging for exclusives anyway. Someone playing Halo on a PC or PlayStation doesn’t make it any less enjoyable for me to play on my Xbox. People that simp for corporations are weird.
Yeah it had quite the dry spell after launch, like the PS3, but for different reasons.
Why would gamers want exclusives? Thats stupid
I definitely have seen people saying the ‘ps5 has no games’ bs, people are stupid af
Winning is not being an absolute moron and getting mad that other people can also play the same games as you on other systems…
