Going to school in Ohio, we never even learned “communism bad because once a bunch of people in a communist country starved”
We simply learned “communism bad” and that was that.
Never directly stated, of course, just constantly informed that the “governments of the world needed to stop its spread” and anything bad that boomers didn’t like was called “communism” so it basically just became synonymous with “bad”
Crazy how the capitalists in charge of things and who had a huge capitalist financial incentive to say " anything other than capitalism is bad" would do such a thing… Real “we’ve tried nothing to help you and we’re all out of ideas” energy.
It’s sadly not just early education either. You can’t be take seriously in the west at the highest levels of education if you don’t first get indoctrinated into the economic structures of capitalism. You can obtain a PHD in economics and never be exposed to actual criticism of capitalism from the most historical figures in a scientific way.
At the highest levels of education you’re directed to serve capital and told details of why it is beneficial you. At the lowest levels you’re just told to fall in line and shut the fuck up you lazy jobless loser.
Capitalism - it’s fine if we wreck everyone else’s people
Communism - we fuck up our own people
(And the usual caveat - it isn’t communism that killed everyone, it’s the moron authoritarians and dictators implementing communism that think they’re some kind of genius that starve, murder, purge, etc. Communism is fine on paper, it just has even shittier protections to authoritarian takeover than capitalism)
