I just stumbled across this in my feed, not sure why as I don’t normally see astro stuff. But anyway I watched it all the way through.

Found it mildly interesting to use an array of (cheep?) commodity hardware and stacking

FYI: it’s a smart telescope brand.

The voice feels off, I’m guessing it’s very good TTS. Maybe even translated straight from Chinese. Which, at least for me, puts in question the “I’m just an astrology enthusiast youtuber” and makes me think this is advertisment at best. He’s namedropping model names all the time, way too focused on numbers etc. Maybe some sort of patriotism/propaganda in there too.

The end result is beautiful but tbh I’m not deep enough into astrophotography to say it’s better than what 1 real telescope would deliver. As far as normal photography is concerned, I’ll always put more stock in one proper sized lens than into a bunch of tiny lenses.

I think it does sound like translation to TTS.

If a uni is making an array it does make sense to be all the same brand/model, and if they reached out to a user group of the same hardware then it would make sense to all be the same brand.

They do say that sa a stand-a-lone device that they may are not as good as high end equipment - but I guess it’s all commodity equipment in the end

Maybe it’s normal to adopt a certain propagandistic tone (even if it’s just for a product or a university) for Chinese youtubers, if they want to keep on youtubing.
