Direct war with Russia would be far worse for the German population. It is much cheaper to fight a proxy war via Ukraine and try to avoid war themselves.

Also, they are ramping up their own defense capabilities so a lot of this money will presumably flow back to German companies, and therefore German jobs.

The money wouldn’t have been spent on our own people in the first place. That’s not the type of party in charge.
