Reports of 1-year-old Karim Abu Nassar being burned with a cigarette and pierced with a nail followed the publication of a United Nations analysis detailing Israel's "systematic" torture of Palestinians since October 2023.
Part of the problem is that there is real anti-Semitism waiting for political cover to join the chorus of valid criticism to further their agenda. Bigots salivate over stories like this to point to as justification for their hatred of entire religious and/or ethnic groups.
This is horrific, and the criminals who did this should face the harshest of punishments. They won’t, because of many problems we face, but none of those problems are solved by dehumanizing the group that contains the perpetrators. This was a hate crime, and you don’t fix Israeli bigotry with more bigotry.

They won’t face any punishment by the Israeli state, but they may very well get the death penalty from Iran or Hezbollah
