ARD said the announcement of a new diplomat was meant to be kept secret from Germany’s government until March, citing a letter from the Afghan Foreign Ministry.

That would contradict the meaning and purpose of a diplomatic relationship in general.

Are they that stupid or that audacious?

I’m not sure if I solely put the blame on the taliban.

Thanks to the German government who was stupid enough to start negotiations about returning Afghan citizens and let them into the country in the first place, the taliban are now testing boundaries, establishing themselves in these positions and they are able to get all the available documents and information from the embassy about relations and Afghan citizens that are in Germany.

And now the taliban can gauge the reactions of Germany and other states. Religious fanatics still can be crafty and should not be underestimated.

The Ministry had originally intended to recall Abdul P. to Afghanistan, but he convinced them that he was still needed due to his experience.

Maybe they wanted their guy running the show but thought the current guy was too valuable to just get rid of? If you have a dynamic where old guy takes his orders from new guy who takes them from the Afghan foreign ministry then I can see what they’re trying to do.
