Leopards Ate My Face@lemmy.world•Young Russians get to experience Iron Curtain 2.0 under Putin.English
11·10 days agoIn the right direction? Really? Russia was already an hellhole under Eltsine, who was highly unpopular, until he decide to silence critics by seizing the medias. And it was already dangerous to criticize Putin when he took power in the beginning of the 2000’s. Some people in Russia sparked doubt about what looked like a plot to put Putin in power (terrorist attacks allegedly caused by Chechen), they’ve been assassinated shortly after. And Putin never stopped to consolidate his power, changing the rules to make increasingly harder to overthrow him.

1·10 days agoà 90% approval is to be expected when opposition doesn’t have virtually any platform to express themselves and criticize the government. In a country where medias are thightly controlled and censored and where criticizing the government put you or your family in danger, you can’t blame people for their political opinion.

1·10 days agoThat’s pretty unfair to blame Russians for what is happening to them. Their country has never been remotely democratic, they don’t have any control over what their governments is doing, and have virtually no chance to even hope to overthrow Putin since it ended very badly for the ones who tried. I’ll even say that people on this videos are real heroes since what they are saying could be enough to send them in jail.

1·10 days agoTo be fair, Russia has never been really democratic, that makes the supports for face eating leopards more comprehensible, if not excusable.
