30k/year job.
That’s what I did, but a good small starter home was $100k – I bought one for under $50k and fixed it up. A nice used car was $5k.
$30k is poverty wages in most places these days.

It was a Burlington Coat Factory, but Goodbye Horses was a little off putting.
I’m on the job and they’re not wrong. Sounds like their department was especially shitty, but I’ve seen a lot of the same.
No, everyone loves a “good” fire.
I am a firefighter and you’re not wrong. The shit I hear some of these assholes say is sickening.
On the other hand the nature of the job doesn’t give near as much of an avenue to act on fucked up beliefs. The culture won’t tolerate that behavior on scene either. There’s also a hell of a lot more accountability: you will be fired, possibly criminally charged, sued, and/or ostracized.
I.e. even if a firefighter is a piece of shit they need to at least act like a decent human being when interacting with the public.

I just bought a pixel 8 off of eBay for $100 to address “Google getting my money”.
And in the USA our options are limited when it comes to a modern, decent smartphone with an unlocked bootloader. The relevant consumer protection laws the rest of the world has don’t exist here because our politicians are bought and paid for by the telecoms.
A lot of internet anarchists are like any other internet leftist: their main “actions” are gatekeeping, purity tests, and virtue signaling that they’re real [whatever flavor of the left they claim]. They have zero pragmatism and no actionable plans – but they get pissed if anyone suggests something that doesn’t perfectly align with their professed ideals.
They don’t actually do anything for their cause in the real world: all they do is bitch on the internet and to their close circle of interchangeable friends. They’re the dead wood of progressiveness.
Win? Why would a despot care about “winning”? So long as they don’t lose a protracted war is a boon.
It’s a means of acquiring even more personal wealth and power. It’s an excuse to oppress their internal enemies, a distraction from their crimes, and a rallying point for their allies.

PC VR is amazing, but still the number of worthwhile full feature games is still small. Meta is just claiming VR is dead because their product sucks: their game library is shit, the metaverse was a joke, and their headsets are privacy nightmares. “Nobody wants what we’re selling, so obviously it’s the tech’s fault.”
I love VR and still gave away my quest 4 and deleted my account. I’m happily waiting for the Steam Frame to come out.

And they’re doing it intentionally.
Why the fuck is anyone still speculating about why Trump and his admin are doing the things they are? Or attributing his actions to the fact he’s a moron?
Wh know who’s pulling his strings and they told us exactly what their plan is.
Project 2025 explicitly states one goal is to return the USA to isolationism. Another is to destroy the US dollar and return to “free banking.” They want a “hard reset” of the US economy.
Throw in religious nutjobs and the war in Iran isn’t a mystery.
Facebook has been handling false account suspension appeals poorly, whereas GitLab doesn’t.
It’s unfortunately legally required to transport someone that’s not A&Ox4.
We hate it too when we know someone really doesn’t need to go, but if we don’t we’re facing losing our job/license, a lawsuit, or even being criminally charged.
The system is fucked because it was made by rich sociopaths and blood sucking lawyers.
EMS can not force you to go to the hospital anywhere in the USA unless you’ve been arrested, are experiencing a mental health crisis where you’re an imminent danger to yourself/others, or aren’t oriented to “person, place, time, and event”. There might be a few other situation (e.g. DUI investigation) I missed but they’re very narrow and specific.
If you’re none of the above you can tell whoever is saying “you have to go” to fuck off.
One of the nicest parts of going from rural to a city was turning in that damn pager.
I do miss sleeping at night on shift, though.
