I’d put it this way: being a parent is basically a second job. If your workplace takes 100% of your work capacity, then there is none left for raising children.

131·1 month agoNow all we need is a central AI that controls the drones via a grid of satelites. We could name this system… I don’t know… …Skynet?

Any employee is -by definition- working class.
What’s keeping you from smearing resin on your face and bathing in turpentine every 200 years?

Europe@feddit.org•Europe suffers under record heatwave as temperatures forecast to reach 44CEnglish
10·2 months agoWhat’s even more concerning is that it doesn’t really cool down at night. For end of the week night temperatures are forecast to be 26°C at their lowest here in Berlin, which must be a new record.
It is definitely legal to own a decommissioned, but otherwise functional tank in Germany. I know that the owner of my local scrapyard had a Russian tank that he liked to drive on his property. I suspect the guy in the OP had some other stuff, that was illegal to own…
Can’t tell if you’re joking, but the time of 45min exposures was definitely over in 1920. ; ) Panchromatic plates (which were also much more sensitive) were invented in 1906, and the Leica small frame camera was invented in 1917, so there must have been some selfie-ready film (or glass plates) available.
Looks more like some aggressive upscaling than an AI generated image.

Europe@feddit.org•Angelique Geray, journalist infiltrated among German neo-Nazis: ‘What surprised me most is that these young people are serious’English
46·3 months agoFurthermore, these groups do not hold a favorable opinion of the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) party, which came in second place in the last election, behind the conservatives. “When I’ve asked about the AfD, they’ve described it as a kind of ‘useful idiot.’ The party and its leaders are despised, but they are strategically used to gradually shift the boundaries of what can be said further to the right, so that, at some point, even more extremist parties can emerge,” the journalist explains.
That is actually an interesting insight. So the right is not as unified as I thought?

Europe@feddit.org•Sweden to deport migrants not following ‘honest living’English
2818·5 months ago“If, for example, you ignore paying your debts, if you don’t comply with decisions from Swedish authorities, if you cheat the benefits system, if you cheat your way to a Swedish residence permit… then you do not have the right to be here,” Forssell said.
Other examples the government cited as examples included working without paying taxes or not paying fines.
“Just don’t be poor.”
“Statements – that is, things a person says or expresses – should not in themselves be regarded as evidence of lack of honest living, but they may be an indication of, for example, links to violent extremism, which can then be a sign of deficient character,” Ludvig Aspling, migration policy spokesman for the anti-immigration Sweden Democrats which is propping up the government, told reporters.
Absolutely dystopian.

Europe@feddit.org•Sweden’s "Unsinkable Aircraft Carrier" - Gotland Island - Is the Key to Crippling Russia in the Baltic SeaEnglish
8·5 months agoIt’d be incredibly funny if Gotland would be swallowed by the sea after being called “unsinkable”. It’s not entirely unthinkable, since sea level rise caused by climate change already threatens coast lines at the baltic sea.
