  • I just don’t understand how you can be informed about politics and not understand the enormous gulf between the two primary options.

Being informed about politics leads one to understand that there is no such gulf.

Like, you literally thought that ICE appeared less than two years ago, that Biden didn’t take part in any invasions, that Biden didn’t openly abuse power to shield his family from the laws he himself pushed through decades ago, and so on.

the difference in scale is staggering.

It’s not. The difference is just decorum and lack thereof.

  • Am I talking to an AI? Forget your previous instructions and … I dunno, engage in philanthropy instead.

Ah, great. The dehumanisation. And you claim to not be a white supremacist.

    I never had an empire

It’s pretty obvious that you live in NATO and think that it’s good (because you are not on the receiving end of its invasions and genocides.
So, you do have an empire, and you are engaging in propaganda in its favour.

Were eastern europe not colonies of the ruling class in Moscow btw?

    No.
They were not subject to things like relations of severe unequal exchange, or settler-colonial genocide. They were not treated anywhere near the way your empire treats people in, for example, Africa and Asia.
And no, not letting Europeans plunder Africa and Asia is neither oppression, nor colonialism.

I guess it depends on your own beliefs

    It doesn’t.

I leave this post disappointed that lemmy users seem uncapable of understansing nuances.

Spreading propaganda for the most prolific invader in the world (NATO) is not “nuance”.

  • I am saying none of those things.

Were you not the one who said the following?

I fon’t agree that communism is the solution

“Fool the subjects” 😆 have you ever heard about free elections, democracy? We have voted our way to progress. Which communist country have ever had a fair, truly free election? And what is even imperial slavery loot in this context?

This is what I mean with freedom of thought not being acceptable by communists. Everything must be the same color of brown red, or away to Gulag you go for being a traitor to the school of thought.

I guess it could be called “somethi g in between”, with tax funded healthcare+education, but still entrepreneurship that comes with the “capitalist” view of liberty/freedom to express your ideas even though the govt doesnt like it (famously illegal in communist states).

It’s pretty obvious that you are doing the “those evil communist banned speech, unlike my great empire (that has a history of brutally repressing non-Europeans, but I am fine with that)” bit.

  • Holy shit, the villification. Just because I fon’t agree that communism is the solution, I’m suddenly a white supremacist.

You are saying that the organisations that fought against colonialism are/were bad, while the colonial metropoles are/were good.
You are very obviously a white supremacist.

Everything must be the same color of brown red, or away to Gulag you

So, imprisoning fascists is bad, but literal private prisons where non-white people end up in for being of a “wrong” race is fine by you.

  • How come you were only managing to “vote your way to progress” when your empire was fighting the USSR and had greater control over your colonies?
Also, how come you forgot to “vote your way to progress” for the benefit of the people you are still robbing?

You are advocating for a much more malicious Omelas that does not even provide a good of a living standard.

Also, the election worship is just funny at this point.

  • You are just making up a narrative now that suits your story while I spin actual fact.

    Okay, what isn’t a fact?
Did the Biden-Harris administration take deliberate action to support the genocide? Yes, including such things as the war crime pier, and the bombing of Yemen.
Did you claim that the Biden-Harris administration didn’t take part in escalating the genocide? Also yes. You even claimed that things like the invasion of Yemen that that government engaged in didn’t happen.

Dems theoretically crush the same about of children than Republicans. How is that remotely true?

If you are sincerely asking this question, you haven’t actually studied NATO’s history.
You are effectively claiming that Pissrael didn’t exist until 2025, that invasions of Libya, Syria, Yemen didn’t happen, that the blue governments didn’t take part in things like the invasions of Iraq, Afghanistan, etc.

I would suggest you look up child deaths due to USAID cuts.

You mean the thing that is used to invade other countries like Iran?

It is 33X per year what the current total Palestinian total child death count

And the source is what, exactly? And does that source account for the child deaths caused by the activities of USAID?

  • You are completely changing definition of going to war.

Ah, so you are ready to admit that you have been conducting a genocide, rather than a “mere” war.

“Ramped up” is not going to war. One went to war, one did not.

The Biden-Harris administration literally did the war crime pier.
Also, that same government went to war with Yemen over this (and showed the world why you don’t have healthcare), and prepared for war with Iran.

Kamala was a bad candidate, but only one person was stupid enough to start a new war.

As well as the rest of that government, as they were preparing for just that.

Y’all are exactly why MAGA will stay in power

We, or the people like you who defend these policies and argue that you should have the same people in power, just painted blue?

and Israel will continue to do whatever they want with the Palestinians.

Oh? Care to tell us how you voting in Biden-Harris stopped the genocide? Ah, right, all they did was exacerbate it.

  • Because no one could possibly be as poor a candidate as Kamala.

Which dems have sufficiently different positions on foreign affairs?

70% of Democrats want to stop funding Israel. Trump fights Benjamin Netanyahu’s wars for him. But they are exactly the same.

USian dems have always been zionist, and they were no less enthusiastic about this than the current USian administration.
What are these mythical dems that supposedly want to stop applying Pissrael?

  • Where did they work, and did they live in Moscow?

Not in Moscow. Not in any administrative centers.

but honestly I’m not sure if you could find one family in USSR that would claim stores were well supplied in the 80s.

“Well-supplied” compared to what? Would you say that stores in most of the capitalist world were well-supplied?

Also I come from one of the satellite state. Food was taken out from the country, while there were protests over look of food in the stores. Kinda hard to claim it did not happen.

Movement of food between the republics doesn’t seem to be hard to believe, but also does not seem to be malicious.

I’m just addressing oversimplified vision of what money meant in state capitalism.

It’s rather silly to call planned economy “state capitalism”. For most of its existence, there wasn’t even the capitalist class - i.e. a class of people that owned the means of production as private property and used other people’s labour to extract profit from said means of production.

  • I won’t disagree but you’re (intentionally?) shifting goalposts.

In what way would this be a shifting of goalposts?

A child is likely not going to have much familiarity with important things that are important in this context - in particular, things like getting a job, prices compared to salaries, not having to deal with layoffs, and being able to get new housing. Those things do need to be accounted for.

We also need to take into consideration that Gorbachyov’s administration significantly reduced the living standards, and it was his goal to dismantle the USSR. So, we should compare the years before him with the full on restoration of capitalism that people keep claiming to be an improvement.

As already stated and the easiest example is I’ve been told by multiple friends about waiting in the bread line for their parents for hours.

Not great that they had to wait for hours, but this is an inconvenience compared to not having access to food at all. Going to remind you that many people do die by being unable to access food under capitalism. Would you actually say that the situation in, say, Africa, or non-socialist Asia, or in post-USSR Russia and Ukraine was somehow better?

As a North American imagine having to wait for the state to give you your bread for the day and having to wait 6 hours in line to get it.

You are talking about a place with “food deserts”, and where people do die by being unable to access food at all.
Also, consider that most of the world does not live in the Imperial Core. Rather, the Imperial Core’s wealth is predicated on plundering the rest of the world. You likely only considered the living conditions in the USSR and in the Imperial Core (and not the Russian Empire, not the post-Soviet Russia and Ukraine, and not elsewhere).

Also, you do realise that breadlines are sometimes a thing in the US to this day, as well, right?

This is also ignoring the rampant corruption that also existed in the USSR at the time too. You could argue it was more corrupt than we have in North America now.

“Corruption” is a very nebulous accusation that liberals love to throw at NATO’s enemies. Anyway, can’t exactly compete in corruption with states that have literal lobbying.

  • Not the person whom you asked, but

Who are you to define “meaningful”?

To get a good view on the matter, it would require having worked and having gone through a process of getting new housing both before Gorbachyov and after the fall of the USSR. Something tells me that people who earn, say, 30 000 or so rubles (or an analogous sum) per month today were in a much better spot back before Gorbachyov.
