Europe@feddit.org•1.4 GW: Huge battery storage at former Grohnde nuclear power plantEnglish
1·23 days agoMolten salt can also be used for heat storage. I’m not sure what the advantages are of molten salt vs water vs sand and what is most realistic.
I don’t think any of those alternatives are used in large scale.
As a side note, some ski resorts are saving snow during the summer to be able to open earlier in the season.

1·23 days agoI think the pumped storage is more used when there is an excess of electricty, for example when wind power plants produces large amount of electricity and the prices goes toward zero, or sometime negative.

2·2 months agoThat makes a lot more sense. When I was reading PCD I was thinking about a private device, even if they don’t have much space and even less time I was thinking that they might bring a few small private things. Like a photo of their family, maybe a book etc.

My manager suggested that the team would sing for me last year in a group meeting. I asked why and she said they should sing because it’s my birthday. I had to look on the calendar because she sounded so convinced but it was several weeks until my birthday. Since that she has never suggested happy birthday singing again and I really hope it remains like that.
I tried Le Chat with the car wash question.
That’s a fun question! Since the car wash is only 50 meters away, walking is definitely the more practical choice. Driving such a short distance would take more time to start the car, drive, and park than it would to simply walk over. Plus, you’ll save a bit of fuel and avoid any unnecessary wear on your car. If you’re already outside and the weather is nice, it’s a great opportunity for a quick stretch!
However, I also asked it with a slightly different phrasing and then the result was different. At least it replies that it might make sense to drive there.
I need to wash my car. The car wash is 50 meters away from my house, should I drive or walk there?
That’s a fun question! Since the car wash is only 50 meters away, walking would be the most practical choice—it’s just a short stroll, and you’d avoid the hassle of starting your car for such a tiny distance. Plus, you’d save a bit of fuel and get a little fresh air! But if you’re planning to wash the car yourself and need to bring supplies, driving might make sense. Are you using an automatic car wash, or are you doing it by hand?

PC Gaming@lemmy.world•The new owner of GOG discusses taking on Steam, the devil of DRM, and following in Nightdive's footsteps
1·4 months agoYou’re right that the AAA will be published on Steam first. And since people want to have all the games in one store, they will buy indie/AA/old games on Steam instead of Gog even if those titles exists on Gog.
But I still think it is better for Gog to stick with the DRM-free niche, people will not move away from Steam anyway as we have seen with Epic store.
Indeed, lets hope this is the first of many funds that can invest in European industry.
