Not efficient. Using sticky tape is wasteful, as it can only be used once. True efficiency would be using straps, rope or something else reusable to secure the load to the bike.

I’ve done this too, with conduit and wood. Protip, some bubble wrap at the contact points for material keeps from damaging the paint.

Also great for bike jousting.
