And yet if you watch the donkeys in action, they all seem stressed and scared. I agree with the OC, it is a despicable thing to watch. And I’m not even a vegetarian, just an observant person.

Unless you’ve worked with donkeys or are Doctor Dolittle you are projecting your feelings onto an animal.

Don’t feel bad, projection is natural. For instance people think my cat loves on them, but I know he’s a narcissistic asshole that only wants chin rubs and food, and couldn’t care less if someone dies if he can get those things. And when he can’t he shits on the carpet.

Some animals hate working, some enjoy it, some pine for it when they are retired. I don’t know where I was going with this comment, but I did want you to know that my cat is a little shit and I love him

Yeah the donkeys probably enjoy being whipped constantly and a bunch of weird assholes constantly coming and going. I see the light now, the fact that these things appear to visibly stress them is just me “projecting” because I have a weird fetish that I want to think animals suffer who don’t.

Truly funny you just now said that animals “pine for work”, something that could literally never ever be detected and is the most projection imaginable.

Hey bub, take a breath, okay? I can see you feel very strongly about this. Any reasonable person doesn’t want animals “being whipped constantly”. I have to admit my initial response was a bit of a shitpost. A critical analysis of my post will reveal that I’m a dumbass with a cat. I wanted an excuse to show people my furry little asshole. I apologize for winding you up

You’ve seen animals being abused, and that is awful. No one should be abused. We live in a cruel world driven by a few greedy people and inhabited by countless desperate ones trying to survive. It’s not easy to maintain empathy when there is so much suffering in the world, and I salute you for your empathy.

Not every animal is abused, but many are. I’ve seen working animals that are treated very well, and I’ve seen working animals in terrible conditions. Like working people, animals deserve to be treated well, compensated appropriately, and allowed to retire in comfort and dignity. I despise the corporate mentality of squeezing every last drop from a worker and then tossing them aside. Good on Greece for putting up guardrails for the animals

You made light of animal suffering and justified it with “but they actually like it sometimes”. Parts of this reply sound genuine and others still seem to make light. So it’s kinda a wash for me.

Ok friend, I didn’t make light of animal suffering, I made light of your seeming black and white outlook. Which now seems very justified. Put down the phone made with child labor, drink a coffee picked by indentured farmers, look out the window into a country propped up by imperialism, and try not to be a complete ass to someone that tried to be nice and actually apologized to you.

Goddamn Habibi, not everyone is your enemy. Be willing to give others the grace they give you, or you will live a very lonely life all alone on your hill of self-righteous fury. Go redirect your anger to the assholes on top, not the ones in the bucket with you. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I apparently have a litter of puppies to drown before I masturbate to rabbits being stepped on. Or something.

You’re a dick. I should know. It takes one to know one

The only true thing you said. You made light of everything and you still do. Your apology was half assed. What a fucking shitty message, infinitely worse than anything could be construed which I said to you. Good riddance dickhole

Edit: the fact that people are on this sociopath’s side makes me want to leave this platform. What the absolute fuck is wrong with people?

Seems obvious to me that if your apology being seen as not great causes you to flip out and tell a stranger they will die alone, you definitely didn’t mean it at all. This was a pretty psychotic string of things to say to someone who just said they can tell when animals suffer at times.

Don’t bother replying with more hatred, I’ve seen what you’ll do so you’re blocked. I’m sure all this is about you being a deeply unhappy person and hoping to spread that.

I don’t know, man. If I had to be a domesticated animal, I’d want to be a donkey giving people rides. It’s arguably better than being chased by lions in their natural environment. The only domesticated animals with better lives are Hindu cows and our cats and dogs.

What is so hard about imagining a world where people don’t whip/torture animals for tourists (who likely aren’t even enjoying the experience that much)? One of the worst experiences I ever had was a camel ride. Nothing about it was pleasant for me, and it was beyond obvious how miserable the camels were. A lot of people ITT apparently would only respond to a situation like that by defending the treatment of the camels as not as bad as something else. Truly bizarre.

I’m not denying the animals can be stressed, scared or both at the same time.

Physically, 100kg is nothing for them to carry. The creatures are extremely sturdy and strong.

But do I doubt bad people abuse the animals? No. The problems start with the tourists. Most people can’t understand or notice when an animal is not feeling fine with what is happening. But if a tourist is willing to pay whatever may be asked to experience a “genuine” local practice, it is prone to be colonized by people that do not care for the wellfare of the animals.

I guess to me the weight is not likely the issue. It’s the fact that they’re being forced to do a repetitive task around and for people they don’t know or trust and get whipped for every little undesirable action.
