German chancellor Friedrich Merz announced sweeping tax, pension and labour reforms today, including that workers will now be required to get a medical certificate saying they’re too unwell to work from the first day of sick leave.
Bruh, who voted for this guy. Everything this party does makes our lives directly worse. Is there anyway this gets blocked? I cannot believe everyone gets a worse life experience AND there’s a tax break for the rich included in this and we’re not fucking protesting in the streets.
My first couple years in Germany were under the street light coalition, which had the traitorous FDP in it, but it was the first time in my life that political news from the government was always good. It was such an amazing feeling that heavily reinforced my choice to move to Germany for forever.
Every month under the CDU has felt like the exact opposite. That freedom of worry, that feeling of constant improvement, gone. It’s living in the US all over again. And with the radical policies being pushed by the AfD and the CDU courting them while also worsening the state of things to the point that the AfD have a chance of winning… Ugh. I just feel like there’s a world where Germans keep voting to shoot themselves in the foot and instead of staying and becoming a German and fully integrating - and really changing my family’s future from Ukrainian two generations ago to American with my parents now to German with me - I’m gonna have to move again to a different EU country that doesn’t want to ruin their own future.
God the Wealth tax can’t come soon enough in the UK and France and hopefully everywhere else.
