I had been skipping this one because I couldn’t figure it out. Google translate kept calling the title “statistician”, and manually typing it into a translator was giving me the same thing. For some reason it thought for a little longer today and finally gave me a title that makes sense: “works as an extra”
As always, stay tuned here on !comicstrips@lemmy.world for a slow trickle out of Jucika comics, but if you want to find more, here’s a good post with a large collection that /u/JohnnyEnzyme@piefed.social posted last year: https://piefed.social/post/1258520

I have no idea, but it’s wild that the translator gives different answers based on absolutely no change in input. I’m literally just reloading it and watching the definition change.
9/10 times it says “statistician”, but every so often it says “works as an extra”
In german “statist” has this exact meaning, so it immediately made sense to me.
That makes sense. When I delete letters on the end, it keeps guessing “extra”, so there must be a similar base word.
Statiszta is the base
I wonder if Google Translate is using A.I. behind the hood now? I see no other reason that would cause fluctuating results
Have you tried the deepl translator? You can click on the translation and it gives alternatives.
People have recommended it before, but this is the first time I’ve truly seen a limitation like this. Will have to use next time.
You can sign up for the free version. It has a character limit per month, but it is reasonable.
