So when trump called him up and said “You wanna be VP?” the respectable thing would have been to say “Yes, but not with you. I’m a never trump guy”.
I disagree with this. The respectable thing would be to say yes, but also that you’re not just going to be a yes-man. Take the role and push the administration in the right direction. Trump wouldn’t accept this, so that would never happen, but it would be the best thing to do, but effectively it’d be saying no.
I guess an alternative is to say yes, wait until you’re locked in, and then do the right thing and push back. I don’t think there’s any mechanism, besides impeachment or murder, to change the VP after the election. Get your foot in the door, and then shove the door open. Vance doesn’t have the balls for this though, if he even actually disagrees with him. Him being anti-Trump was probably just a political move.
