So now I guess I’m getting paid to sit in bumfuck nowhere and wait for a tow truck. And of course, like a movie detective, it died one day before retirement. I was swapping into a new van tomorrow and this one was getting traded in. I’ll miss the old barge though. It had been owned and modified by several different contractor outfits at various points in it’s life so it definitely had character.

One of my technicians had his 2025 frontier flat out die on him the other day. He literally walked to his last 3 jobs while waiting for a tow. Then we got it back and the day I left for vacation it did it again! Apparently if the battery goes bad the whole system goes haywire and says something like “total system failure” I told him I’d give him one of my new Mavericks but he’s stubborn. He’s now driving a Tacoma lol

    Tldr - don’t get a Nissan frontier

I’m not getting anything nearly that new. In fact I’m not getting anything new. Out senior most tech got a new van. I’m getting his old battle tested 2018 Chevy Express. But at least this one has remote start. The van I had been in was the oldest of our actually used fleet vehicles. I will miss the side sliding door from my old van though. The sliding side door was so nice in tight parking spaces.

My Branch got lucky. Since we were the newest addition we got all new 25 and 26 Maverick hybrids and a few Tacoma. They’re very nice but these guys drive the shit out of them.

I had a work vehicle break down on me too once. It was the middle of the shift, gorgeous spring day, mild temperature, fresh spring air, a nice breeze, and we were in farmlands so we had a lovely view. My coworker was fuming at having to sit and wait for fleet to come rescue us, but I was happily chilling and enjoying getting paid to sit, enjoy the weather, and not be able to work.
