don’t really get the art here, thought the thumbnail was going to be a B-52 dropping bombs beause the overwhelming majority of displaced people are so displaced because of the USA destroying, couping, or hyperexploiting their homes.

I feel like the people who is hovering are those who died trying to get to a better place. The image is flipped upside down to emphasize how they have fallen, but also how they go to heaven.

You could also say that their world is turned upside down while trying to flee, because nothing is safe anymore, and that they have to hold onto the boat to not fall.

Sometimes it is. For example, there are a lot of ppl being genocided in Gaza. There was like an 80 years time window for them to become refugees. Some did. Some stayed in their homeland, which is, of course also understandable. (Now, even if they wanted, they probably can’t leave any more.) My point is, they had to choose between two evils, one of which was to become a refugee. You could say it’s not a real choice, but that would diminish the sacrifice and courage of those who stayed to be genocided.

        Nobody said they are.

However, parents sometimes make those tough choices for their children and that’s also valid, even if some of us would have made a different choice. Fleeing a country isn’t exactly safe and often you need resources. Even if you had maybe 18 years to prepare, only very few expected the situation to escalate that quickly to genocide. Maybe some were even still saving money or planning when Israel started.
