Ah yes antisemitism, the new wrapping used to remove freedoms.
With terrorism, child protection, and antisemitism you can silence critics of any law that restricts freedoms
I’m against genocide. If “they” claim that means I’m against XXXX, then, um, OK. If they’re telling me they are one and the same, then I guess, F— the XXXX!!!
This is what the OP discussion is about no? Who cares if some Jewish person claims that not supporting the actions of the Israeli state is anti Semitic?
It’s still the responsibility of thinking people to recognize the fallacy, because there’s millions of Jews that have no relation to Israel.
I have to literally remind myself on about a weekly basis of the Jewish people I know personally who hate all this shit (including more than one Israeli), literally think of their faces and names and things they have said, because all of the default news organizations conflate “Jewishness” with “the current actions of the Israeli government”.
If you absorb news at whatever level, that equivalency is assumed all the time in mainstream news. And propaganda works even if you know they’re doing it.
The alternative perspectives are, for the most part, even more antisemitic in a direct outspoken way, and even more harmful to get acculturated to.
But it takes conscious willpower as a random shiksa in North America to not get pulled into one of those camps.
It’s almost like there is an extremely wealthy and influential group of people who think they benefit from the growth of BOTH of these perspectives!
“X” Well there’s your problem
Oh my god they meant twitter. I thought X was an imaginary variable.
I’ve seen the conflation here on Lemmy too.
As the post says, X isn’t the whole problem. It’s a symptom, not the cause.
Considering its influence on visible public conversation, particularly how often news outlets report on A Thing Someone Tweeted, I would suggest it’s at least partly to blame. Certainly not the only culprit, but I don’t think Elon Musk bought it to not shape public discourse
One of many. They are multiplying, quickly.
Ive seen the first part (of the top post) but not the second part
