The Addams Family began not as a family, but as single nameless characters in Charles Addams’ single panel comics in the New Yorker.
I have looked for some time trying to find a publication order for the strips, but have come up empty handed. So I will be sharing them in the order they appear in the book The Addams Family Album on Wednesdays.
This strip features the character that presumably will become Uncle Fester, who Addams says resembled himself, plus a little more hair.

Very fitting ;) Looking forward to it. Thanks!
It was not a day picked at random. 😁

He was a pretty funny guy.
I have a few Adam’s family books that my dad bought when he was a kid. Probably from the 1950s? Now I want to dig them out again. I used to love reading them when I was a kid.
Wednesdays just got a whole lot cooler around here. o7
Wow! This really puts their schtick into perspective. Cool beans!
This was me and my family watching Joker.
Damn this is interesting
Which one has more hair? 👶
Charles Addams

Fester Addams

We do not know what is under Fester’s coat. So we can only assume Charles did not mean hair on his pate.
I guess the gag would be Fester looking like Cousin Itt under the coat.
