I’d question even if this is true. OP wrote it like they read the contract lol.
But even if it’s true, it’s not like publishers have a choice. You can’t say no and not release your game on steam because it’s the biggest store by far. Valve is literally abusing its monopoly to reinforce its monopoly.

There are many reasons, but I think the ultimate explanation is that the fediverse isn’t even trying to compete with corporate-owned networks.
There are just too many things that confuse regular users - things they don’t need to think about on mainstream platforms, such as how to discover new content, why there are different servers, dramas around instance admins, and so on. You actually have to want to be here to overcome these obstacles.
And this is by design. The fediverse is many projects created and managed by many people. There is no single entity that could optimize the user experience and promote a single service.
So yeah, the fediverse is insignificant in the grand scheme of things. Is that a problem to solve? I’m not sure. The fediverse is a real alternative precisely because it’s different.
It’s rather Apple who is incompatible with the rest of the world. Any other bluetooth device can transfer files with other bluetooth devices.

Poor MEPs.

LibreOffice isn’t an alternative to web-based office suites.

They probably don’t want to deal with Microsoft lawyers.

I’m surprised admins found a window large enough when github wasn’t down to ban the researcher.

AI is great for this. We shouldn’t put people with disabilities at a disadvantage because of the anti-AI hysteria.
What is it with people these days that atheism is suddenly considered a bad thing?
Sir, this is just a joke.
As someone who’s been trying it on and off for ~15 years… yeah.
Well why would lemmy and reddit be any different? Same format, same people - just on a smaller scale. But it makes any drama more visible.
I guess this is inevitable given the open nature of the fedi. Still, it’d be better if admins were open about this as some people have broader ethical concerns, and they might not want to sponsor instances that use these money to pay for LLMs.
I understand that some form of automation is necessary - we saw large instances closing because they couldn’t find mods. My main objection in this scenario would be is that I didn’t consent to train OpenAI models. I think the users should know if their instance uses external services like that.
I also suspect that there might be cheaper and more ethical solutions. Although it’s hard to talk about this without seeing the actual results.
ChatGPT will never reach this level of creative writing.
At least somebody is reading my blog. Thanks, bots.
