People in the past or future don’t have to worry about what’s lost or gained, only living people in the present get to worry about it because they have a choice on what will be lost and what won’t, so it’s our(for now) turn in the timeline to wear the “shroud” of loss and decide what value to give everything around us, is that species worth losing, what about life of someone far away, truth is worth losing?
